You’d expect the new iOS 17 update to offer the split-screen feature so you can finally multitask on your phone. Unfortunately, iOS 17 does not offer the split-screen feature, at least for now. This simply means that users, including you, can stick to third-party apps to perform tasks simultaneously while enjoying the other interesting iOS 17 features and waiting for Apple to satisfy this craving of yours.

Does iOS 17 Support Split Screen?

Split Screen has long been one of the most desired iPhone features, yet iOS 17 still does not allow it. Indeed, it’s puzzling why Apple hasn’t implemented full-screen capabilities or Split View compatibility for the large 6 to 6.7-inch iPhone screens.

Split Screen, on the other hand, has been available to Android users for quite some time. Split View, like Split Screen, allows two apps to run concurrently side by side on the iPad and Mac. However, on iOS 17, this is not possible.

Apple Inc. has yet to address or disclose why Split Screen isn’t available to iPhone customers running iOS 17. However, there could be a wider issue with apps that don’t adapt well to different sizes and setups. Whatever the case may be, Apple does not want to take a chance on it just yet.

As I mentioned earlier, there are third-party apps that allow you to split screen and simultaneously perform tasks on your iPhone. While iOS 17 does not offer the split-screen feature, third-party apps do. These apps, which are free to download from the App Store, allow you to split your screen and run two programs simultaneously. Here are

You can access the split screen feature by downloading the split view app from your App Store. Follow these steps

  • Go to the Apple App Store.
  • In the search bar, look for the Split View app.
  • To open the app’s available downloading option, tap on its icon.
  • Select the Install option.
  • Wait for the download to complete.
  • Once downloaded, launch the app to watch two apps side by side on one screen.

How to Use the Picture-in-Picture Feature in iOS 17

Although split screen is not available by default on iOS 17, Picture in Picture gives a multitasking option, especially if you want to watch a movie or make a FaceTime call while using other apps.

  • Begin a video or FaceTime call.
  • While the video or call is playing, swipe up from the bottom of the screen (or press the Home button on prior iPhones) to return to the Home Screen.
  • The video or call will be shrunk down to a corner of the screen, allowing you to use other apps while keeping your attention on the video or conversation.
  • To resize the video window, pinch it open or close, press it to expose or hide controls, and then drag it to a different corner of the screen.
  • Return to the main video screen by tapping on the mini video window.

Apple’s decision to add Split View to the Mac and iPad lineups comes as a pleasant surprise, though not as satisfactory as it would seem if it were on the iOS 17

Using The Split-Screen Basics for Mac

  • Click the green button with the arrows inside it in the top left corner of any active window or application.
  • Click and hold the icon if you haven’t updated to macOS Catalina yet.
  • With Catalina and later, you can select Tile Window to Left of Screen or Tile Window to Right of Screen from the corresponding drop-down menu. In older versions of macOS, pressing and holding the icon causes the window to minimize, and moving it to the left or right resizes it.
  • Simply select a window on the other side of the display and click it to complete the task.
  • Drag the center vertical line or one of the side windows to change the width.

Using The Split-screen on iPad

Apple’s iPads feature a split-screen mode called “Split View,” which functions differently than on a Mac. With SlideOver, you can split your screen in two, each containing a different app. The procedure is as follows:

  • Launch the program, and then press the three-dot button to switch between open windows.
  • Click the buttons labeled “Split View” or “Slide Over.”

There are several drawbacks as well as benefits to using Split Screen. This is in no way meant to kill the expectation because I need that feature too!
