How to Change My Age on TikTok without Deleting My Account (2023)

Have you been experiencing viewing restrictions due to the wrong age input? Do you keep asking how to change your age on TikTok? Stick around and find out.

TikTok is a popular social media platform that enables users to make, watch, and share short videos and photos taken using mobile devices or webcams. The app is renowned for its highly engaging user base and addictive nature resulting from its personalized feeds of amusing short videos coupled with music and sound effects.

Both amateur and professional artists can cooperate on content and make split-screen duet videos, even if they are in separate locations. They can also add effects like filters, background music, and stickers to their videos.

How to Check or Verify Your Age on TikTok:

Currently, TikTok does not provide a means to check or verify your age or birthday date. However, if you suspect you’re experiencing view restrictions due to your age, you can apply for a change/correction of your birthday date by following the steps below.

How to Change Your Age on TikTok:

It’s challenging to change your age on TikTok. According to TikTok, its users must be 13 or older to access its material. However, the unpredictable nature of what goes viral has proven inappropriate and risky for kids.

Although TikTok doesn’t require proof of age when making an account, you must do so to have your information changed. On TikTok, there is no manual way to modify your age. To shield children from offensive content, TikTok disabled the option to modify your birthday.

If you’ve mistakenly signed up with the wrong birthday date and want to change your age on TikTok, you have to contact customer support to correct it.

To go about this, follow the steps below:

  • Tap Profile in the bottom right corner
  • Then tap the three horizontally stacked lines icon in the top right corner of your profile
  • Then select Settings and privacy
  • Scroll down and tap Report a Problem under the SUPPORT section
  • Next, tap Account and profile
  • Then select the Editing profile menu and tap Other
  • Select Need more help? And that should open up a chatbox for messaging the TikTok support team.
  • Send them a short message expressing your desire to update your birthday date on your TikTok account. (A reason is not necessary.)
  • In a few days, you will receive a reply in your mail from a TikTok representative requesting a government ID as proof to verify your birthday date.
  • Send a scanned copy of the document. After which they should change the birthday date on your TikTok account to the correct one on your ID
N.B: As stated earlier, there is no assurance that they will comply. Also, the date of birth can only be changed to your original date.

Why Does My TikTok Say Age Restricted?

Although TikTok has a minimum age requirement of 13 years to create an account, content restrictions exist on users below 16 years, such as commenting or sending messages.

If this is the case, your TikTok might say age-restricted. If you claim to be younger than 13 years old, you can only view filtered content that the app suggests for you.

How to Appeal TikTok Age Ban Restrictions:

You can only submit underage appeals on TikTok by contacting their support staff.

I understand this can seem intimidating, but I’ll show you how to accomplish it quickly.

Follow these 5 steps to challenge the age limitation If you have been banned from TikTok due to age.

Step 1

Open the ban/restriction message on the TikTok app

Select the Notifications Tab and tap the Appeal Button.

Step 2

After opening the appeal section, TikTok will request you submit your personal information. This includes your full name, address, phone number, etc.

Step 3

On TikTok, there are primarily two ways to verify your age:

  • If you are at least 18 years old, take a selfie with your ID.
  • If you are between the ages of 13 and 17, take a picture with a guardian.

You must upload an image of your government-issued ID to TikTok along with a selfie in which you are holding the same ID and a piece of paper with a special code that was given to you throughout the appeals process, making sure that any important ID information is appropriately covered.

Users between the ages of 13 and 17 can appeal by uploading a photo of themselves with a parent or guardian at least 25 years old.

The adult must hold a paper with your TikTok proof of age, birth date, and a special code provided throughout the appeals process. Both faces must be plainly visible.

N.B: There are two other ways to confirm your age on TikTok: credit card authorization and facial age estimation.

Facial age estimation is not advisable as it requires TikTok to estimate via a third party based on facial structures and facial features from a selfie you would be asked to upload. This process is error-prone, as some people may look older or younger than their faces suggest.

On the other hand, credit card authorization (if you are 18 or older) necessitates that you provide your credit card information and that a brief charge be made to confirm the legitimacy of your card. Your email address must communicate the appeal, and all fees will be returned.

Step 4

After submitting your information, TikTok will demand more details to complete the appeal process. Understand that the TikTok Support Team receives several appeals every day, most of them being false.

Note: To raise your chances of lifting the TikTok age ban, ensure you use a standard appeal template. The template must clearly state that you’ve completed the age verification process, duly following all the required processes and that your documents clearly show you are 18 and above.

Step 5

After submitting the template, TikTok may or may not request more information.

Be patient because TikTok occasionally takes longer than anticipated to decide.

Your case will be examined by the TikTok moderation team, who will then make a judgment.

If they discover something is wrong with your age restriction appeal, they might need further information or decide to reject it altogether.

Checking your emails and TikTok notifications at this point is essential to move on appropriately.
